Welcome!
Welcome to the NYS Clean Energy Educator workshop! We are so glad to spend the day with you all exploring clean energy goals.
You will leave this workshop ready to teach your students about clean energy and the future career opportunities it provides through hands-on learning.

8:45 AM: Check In
Participants will check in and are welcome to socialize before the workshop begins.
9:30 AM: Welcome
Why Clean Energy?

10:00 AM: Intro to Energy Grids, Power Generation, Transmission, Management
Educators will know the key components of the electric grid in NYS and make connections in the relationships between state organizations and private businesses that generate, transmit and provide electricity to homes and businesses.
11:00 AM: NYS Climate Agenda, its Goals and Policies
Educators will prioritize elements of the NYS Climate Agenda in order to determine how to integrate this information into their teaching.
12:00 PM: Environmental Justice in Syracuse & Sign Up for Stipends
Educators will define environmental justice communities and determine how the Climate Agenda will bring environmental justice to a disadvantaged community.

Meet with NYSERDA Finance Team between 12-2 pm.
2:00 PM: Evaluating Energy Efficiency and Constructing an Energy Efficient House
How is energy efficiency different from energy conservation?
EPA Carbon Footprint Calculator
What does it mean to decarbonize buildings?
How does this affect greenhouse gas emissions?
3:00 PM: Lesson Plan Development
Educators will work in small grade level or subject based groups to discuss and develop activities & lessons to bring to their classrooms to teach about the NYS Climate Agenda.
