Welcome to the NYS Clean Energy Educator Institute! We are so glad to spend the next four days with you all exploring clean energy goals.
You will leave this workshop ready to teach your students about clean energy and the future career opportunities it provides through hands-on learning.

DAY TWO - JULY 16: Wind Energy, Environmental Justice and Clean Energy Field Trips

MEET YOUR PANELIST
Dana Politis
Associate Commissioner for Workforce Development
Dana serves as the Associate Commissioner for Workforce Development. In her role, she leads special projects and initiatives to support New York’s workforce. Her goal is to ensure all New Yorkers are empowered with the right education, training and skills for the jobs of the future.
Career Background: Prior to her role at DOL, she was the founding Director of Community Workforce Programs at Montefiore Medical Center, leading community workforce development strategy and implementation. She implemented new partnerships with the NYC Department of Education, CUNY, and other community-based organizations to design employer-led career readiness and workforce training programs in healthcare.
Education: A Bronx native, Dana is a first-generation Greek American who was the first in her family to graduate from college. She has a bachelor’s degree from Barnard College and a master’s degree in Public Health from the Mailman School of Public Health, Columbia University.
Debra Salomon
Director of Program Development at City Tech CUNY Continuing Studies Center
Debra Salomon is the Director of Program Development at City Tech CUNY Continuing Studies Center and the founder of 408 Group Inc, a woman-owned business focused on renewable energy program development. Over a nineteen-year career in continuing education, her focus has been on providing affordable, hands-on renewable energy and clean technology training for all New Yorkers. Starting with solar PV in 2007, energy storage a decade later, clean heating and cooling training, and currently offshore wind education, Debra has developed industry and educational partnerships leading to best-practice training for the transition to the clean energy economy. A background in design and construction led to her exploration of energy production that is both efficient and sustainable. She has a firm belief that as new clean - energy jobs emerge they should be available to working New Yorkers and understands that workforce development is a key component of employment equity.
Lyle Sclair
Lead Economic Development Representative for National Grid Ventures & Community Offshore Wind's Economic Development Manager
Lyle Sclair is currently the Lead Economic Development Representative for National Grid Ventures and also serves as Community Offshore Wind’s Economic Development Manager. He is responsible for developing our innovative approach to workforce development, economic development and supply chain engagement with a focus on supporting MWBE and SDVOB firms.
Lyle brings over fifteen years of experience working with government agencies, not for profits and small businesses to move complex public-private economic development projects along from concept to implementation. Most recently, Lyle served as an Economic Development Representative on National Grid’s New York Economic Development team, where he was responsible for working with economic development customers and stakeholders across their New York City and Long Island gas service territory. Prior to joining National Grid, Lyle was the executive director of Bayside Village BID, representing over 117 property owners and 250 small businesses. He also served as a special advisor to the Board of Directors of the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce, providing technical assistance to over 40 chambers across Nassau County.
He has a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from New York University and received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. He is a certified economic developer by the International Economic Development Council and most recently participated in Coro Leadership NY.
Daniel Mulligan
Senior Project Manager
Dan has been with NYSERDA as a Senior Project Manager with the Workforce Development group since August of 2023. Dan also handles labor relations advisory services across NYSERDA programs.
Prior to coming to NYSERDA, Dan was a member of the Enterprise Association of Steamfitters – Local 638 for 37 years where he served as the Business Manager of the Local. As Business Manager, he led and managed the daily affairs of the Local, representing over 9,000 members working in the HVAC, piping and related industries throughout the five boroughs of New York City and Long Island. He was also Chair of the Local’s Board of Trustees, managing approximately $3 billion dollars in member/contractor funded benefit accounts. Prior to that he was elected and served his local as a Business Agent from 2011 to 2020 covering East Brooklyn, South Queens, Downtown Manhattan and Staten Island. Dan entered the Steamfitter Apprentice program in 1985 and graduated in 1989.
Dan spent several years pursuing his education and working outside of the construction industry. He attended St. John’s University where he attained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance in 1995. He also attained a law degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1999. From 1992 to 1997 he worked in the banking industry with Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. and then practiced law at Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker, as well as Drinker, Biddle & Reath from 1999 to 2002.
