Welcome!
Welcome to the NYS Clean Energy Educator workshop! We are so glad to spend the day with you all exploring clean energy goals.
You will leave this workshop ready to teach your students about clean energy and the future career opportunities it provides through hands-on learning.

8:45 AM: Check In
Participants will check in and are welcome to socialize before the workshop begins.

10:00 AM: Intro to Energy Grids, Power Generation, Transmission, Management
Educators will know the key components of the electric grid in NYS and make connections in the relationships between state organizations and private businesses that generate, transmit and provide electricity to homes and businesses.

11:30 AM: IWNL Career Navigator
Educators will engage with the IWNL Career Navigator, an interactive tool designed to help students explore high-growth, purpose-driven careers in clean energy and sustainability. Participants will learn how to integrate the platform into their curriculum, support career exploration aligned with New York’s clean energy goals, and connect students to real-world opportunities including internships, certifications, and workforce training pathways. This session will emphasize equity, access, and relevance for all learners, especially those historically underrepresented in STEM fields.

12:00 PM: Lunch Break & Sign Up for Stipends
Lunch provided.
Meet with NYSERDA Finance Team between 12-2 pm.
1:00 PM: Environmental Justice on Long Island & Sign Up for Stipends
Educators will define environmental justice communities and determine how the Climate Agenda will bring environmental justice to a disadvantaged community.
2:00 PM: Geothermal
Educators will explore the various uses of geothermal energy in NYS. Understand the concept of geothermal energy and its benefits as a clean and renewable energy source. Design and construct a model of a closed-loop geothermal exchange system using the available materials.
Educators will discuss Heat Pumps and their benefits to decarbonizing homes.
3:00 PM: Lesson Plan Development
Educators will work in small grade level or subject based groups to discuss and develop activities & lessons to bring to their classrooms to teach about the NYS Climate Agenda.
